Bridging Worlds is an initiative that aims to break down barriers between deaf and hearing young people, creating a common space where communication is unrestricted and every young person can express themselves equally.
Through the cooperation of organisations from Greece, Italy and Latvia, Bridging Worlds brought together young people with different experiences and backgrounds. Using non-formal education, arts and sign language as outreach tools, we managed to turn curiosity into knowledge and distance into friendship.
In this section you can learn about the actions that have been implemented, study the inclusion guide created from the field experience and follow the personal stories of the participants who are at the heart of this project.
Activities and Results
Experience Exchange Meeting
In Turin, Italy, in February 2025, a five-day training programme for deaf and hearing young people from Greece, Latvia and Italy took place. Focusing on art and cultural exchange, this initiative brought these two worlds together, giving young people the opportunity to share their experiences and develop new ideas.
Educational Activities in Thessaloniki
The educational activities that took place in Thessaloniki from 13 to 17 October were attended by deaf and hearing young people from Greece, Italy and Latvia. The full programme of educational activities allowed participants to gain a better insight into the life and culture of the two communities, enhancing communication and cooperation between them.
Public awareness
The activities of the consortium were not limited to training activities, filming interviews and creating the guide to inclusive actions. They were also extended to the local level by conducting monthly activities to strengthen relations between the deaf and hearing communities, and by creating information materials on the proper ways to communicate with deaf people.
Guide to Inclusive Events
Using the information, opinions and experiences from all the project activities, we created a guide for the organisation of inclusive actions. The guide is freely available and is a useful tool for any individual or organisation wishing to make their activities equally accessible to deaf and hearing people. You can read and download the guide by clicking the button below.
Interviews
A collection of interviews with deaf and hearing young people, who share their experiences and perspectives on connecting the two communities.
